Opening:
Exactly at noon on Sunday, 27 June 1976, the long silver shape of the airliner lifted off the burning runway of the international airport at Athens with 246 passengers in its broad belly, and soared off on its nonstop flight to Paris. It carried an aircrew of twelve.
One of the wide comfortable seats was occupied by Joseph Abougedir, a Tunis-born Israeil aged forty-eight, father of seven children. Two passengers who had boarded the plane at Athens sad beside him and, in doing so, muttered a greeting in a language he did not understand.
